Effects on FCCA Frequency Coordination
Mid-day on Tuesday, October 1, the FCC shut down its web site due to governmental lack of funding. With this action, the public could no longer access FCC databases or file applications for new or modified radio station licenses. This action also affected FCCA’s ability to file applications with the FCC in its capacity as a certified frequency coordinator.
Although applications cannot be filed with the FCC, FCCA is continuing to accept and process applications for public safety radio station licenses. Applications can be filed electronically at www.freqeasy.com. FCCA will process the applications to the point of filing with the FCC and then hold such applications until the FCC reactivates its Universal Licensing System. While, depending on the length of the shutdown, license grants may be delayed, there is no need to delay in filing applications with FCCA. It is FCCA’s goal to make the FCC shutdown as seamless to our customers as possible.
The FCC has limited staff available to handle emergency situations. Should you have an emergency need for operating authority, FCCA staff can assist you in contacting the FCC. Our staff can be reached at (717) 398-0815.
